Harvest Fest 2015

Harvest Fest in Marietta Square (Marietta Ga) was great this year! Happy Baby Crochet partnered with Tiny Nose Little Toes and we both did well and were very busy. We had a lot of fun. A touch-a-truck event was being sponsored for the kids by the City of Marietta. There was a costume contest, in which my friend's son won for his amazing handmade transformers costume. Go Jacob! Overall it was a success and we are planning to do a spring show there as well!

Here are some of my creations at the festival.

I appreciate so much the support of my customers, reviews posted on etsy, and people who encourage me in this creative business. It is not easy sometimes to keep it up, but I love it and so thankful for my talents. It makes me so happy to crochet things for sweet & precious babies. They are God's most wonderful blessings!

Valentine's Day Crochet Heart Necklace

This is a repost from last year.
I love this little valentine's day necklace!

This is a fun little craft I did with my 6 year old son. We made necklaces to use as gifts for Valentine's Day. I thought they were so cute, I had to post about how we created them!

Here are the items you will need for the project. I used some silk chiffon ribbon, but you may use bulky weight yarn or some other kind of ribbon. I will include the pattern for the crochet heart.

STEP 1:
To get started, you will need to make the crochet heart. If you do not crochet, you could use a felt heart, heart button, or another "heart" object. Joann's has lots of heart items that would work for this project.

Pattern for crochet heart. (H hook, worsted weight yarn). *Light pink heart is 100% cotton yarn, hot pink heart is wool yarn.* I prefer cotton for this project.

Start with a magic circle. Ch 3. Work the following into the circle - 4 tc, 2 dc, 1 tc. Now ch 1 and work the remaining into the circle - 2 dc, 4 tc. Chain 3 and slip stitch into your circle. Pull tight to close your circle and end off.

STEP 2:
Next, you will need to attach the bell to your crochet heart. This step is optional (my son saw jingle bells and insisted that we add one! :-).

STEP 3:
Next, thread the craft beads on to the ribbon using the yarn needle. This is a great exercise for kids! My son used 2 red, 1 white, 2 red, 1 white, 2 red, 1 white, 2 red. (6 red and 3 white).

STEP 4:
Thread ribbon through your crochet heart. Mommy probably needs to do this step.

STEP 5:
Now, finish up the other side by threading the remainder of the beads. Tie a bow using opposite ends of the ribbon and there you have it....a very cute heart necklace!

I love it!! Thanks for checking out my craft!

Also wanted to share my some of my Valentine's day hats for babies. Happy Valentine's Day!!

New Year, New Inspiration

With a new year comes new inspiration, and what better to be inspired by than God's word? Colossians 3:23 encourages us that in "whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." To me, this means if I am raising my kids, than I need to do with the best of my abilities and energy. If I am being active in my church, then I need to work at it like working for Jesus. If I am crocheting for babies, then I need to do my best work, closing off all of my ends and making that  project just perfect for a sweet baby. I am excited to start a new year with a plan to work hard, and fulfill God's purpose in and through me.

This past year has been challenging to say the least. I felt God was calling me to try homeschool. Honestly, there were so many days that I just wanted to hide under a rock and never come out! I didn't feel worthy of this call on my life and that I was failing miserably. I also had to take time off from my etsy shop and crochet. I did not stop crocheting though....or I would go completely crazy. Crochet is one of the only things that keeps me somewhat NORMAL, whatever that is!

I actually discovered a lot of inspiration this past year and wanted to share some of my crochet projects. I did branch out a bit from babies to some other crochet interests and ideas.

These are my chevron boot toppers/cuffs. Since I took these photos, I have made a lot more of these and they are even better now. I have been making them all winter. I  made several for Christmas gifts. I love them and plan to release them in my etsy shop soon!

Here are some coffee cup cozies that I made for Christmas gifts too. I gave them to my son's teachers and they loved them! I hope to share this pattern on my blog soon.

I have also used this same chevron pattern to make baby blankets and scarves. Here is a sample of my mini blanket. I love this pattern. It's so much fun to use different yarns and see how they turn out.
