The Apple Cozy Christmas gift

I had to share my teacher gifts from this year. They came out so cute that I even gave them to friends and family for Christmas. Everyone LOVED them!

The apple cozy pattern I used is a FREE tutorial from Little Abbee. Check it out!

So here is what I did:

  1. I completed the apple cozy pattern from Little Abbee - I used Spud and Chloe sweater yarn for the red and a few different yarns for the greens. One was Red Heart Shimmer in green. Cottons work best for the red since it helps to build a firm shape for your apple. I added a cute button.
  2. Along with my organic granny smith apples, I also bought some organic caramel dip from Whole Foods. I wrapped it up in one of their recycled grocery bags, which was a way to save some extra money.
  3. I bought some cute ribbon (sparkles on left, dots on right), tied it up and added a nice gift tag.
AND.....There you go! Very nice and affordable Christmas (or any time of the year) gift that your child's teachers will love.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Blessings,
Jenny

Getting Ready for Christmas!

CHRISTMAS, it's the most exciting time of year! I just LOVE the smells of Christmas.....ummmm. There is nothing better than coming home to our live Christmas tree with its pine smell that fills our entire house. I like to bake at Christmas time so there's always yummy aromas of freshly baked breads, pumkin chocolate chip muffins, and oatmeal raisin cookies. I also love yankee candles like cherry cookie, warm vanilla, and apple spice. Just writing this post is making me hungry!

Christmas is a super busy time of year for most everyone I know. I've been trying to slow down a bit this Christmas. Last year I spent crocheting like mad so this year I have taken in less orders. I have made some gifts for family. I will posting what I made soon. They are very cute.

The best thing about Christmas is that I get to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I try and remember that everything I do should honor Him and be for His glory...even if it's just crocheting baby hats or making Christmas gifts. Some how I hope that what I do will bring a little happiness or joy to a new mom or baby.....bringing a smile to their faces. What I do is not for the money or to boast of my skills or creativity....it's simply that I enjoy and appreciate the gift that God gave me and I love babies.

There is nothing like looking back at newborn photos of your own baby. It's the most precious photos you will ever have as a memory of when they were that little.

So, on that note....here are some of my Christmas items. My etsy shop is a little bare right now because I am trying to keep my workload under control for Christmas. If you don't see what you are looking for (but you know I've made it in the past) please email me happybabyshoes99@gmail.com and I can definitely give you a turnaround time. Thanks!

Falling In Love with Handspun Yarn

I think God definitely made me a "creative" person. Sometimes I lay in bed awake at night thinking of all the new things I want to make, crochet or other. You might do this too. There are times I get an idea at the store, or while playing with my kids, or searching online but typically it's late at night before I go to sleep (GREAT TIMING!). When I get an idea in my head, it takes every ounce of my being not to jump in the car to go buy the materials I need to start my project right away!

More recently, I have been inspired by the most beautiful handspun yarns, created by work-from-home-moms out of their American homes. Just to touch these yarns sends a tingle through my spine! I love it. It feels so soft and you can just see the beautiful artistic talent that went in to dying and spinning the fibers. Absolutely Beautiful!

So I thought I would share my 2 favorite handspun yarn vendors. All of their yarn is AMAZING! If you crochet or knit, you must get you some of this handspun yumminess!

The first is Spin-Up Yarns.
Andrea creates the most beautiful yarns right out of her home. I am amazed at all she does. So much talent! She has made several custom yarns for me and I love working with her. She is had her most recent update this past Friday, May 25th. Check her out!

The second is Winding the Skein.
Debra from Winding the Skein updates her shop every Monday at 6pm PDT. Her yarns sell very quicky so be ON TIME if you want to buy! Visit her on facebook for her most recent updates. She also sells knitting patterns.
